a branch of the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System

The Literacy Council works with students in a one-to-one situation. The program is for adults who have difficulty reading at a standardized level, adults who are learning English as their second language and adults who are studying to become naturalized citizens.

The Council was organized as a non-profit organization of volunteers.  It began through a Federal Grant administered through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Eastern Oklahoma District Library System.

We use several different programs of study depending on the need of the individual. Tutors are matched with students depending upon interests and schedule availability. Our tutor/student pairs meet one to two times a week for at least an hour. Most tutor/student pairs meet at the library.
